Experience and judgement for ports and infrastructure

Over three decades, Alec Don has led some of the most significant port and infrastructure businesses in the UK, Africa and the Gulf. As chief executive of the Port of Milford Haven he ran the UK's largest energy port; as chief operating officer at Abu Dhabi Ports — and then as adviser to its international arm, Noatum Ports — he directed over $1.1bn of terminal investments at Abu Dhabi's flagship Khalifa Port, and over $300m of investments at Karachi Gateway Terminal and Noatum Ports Luanda Terminal. At Mersey Docks and Harbour Company (now Peel Ports), a FTSE 250 group, he held directorships spanning group strategy and the Port of Liverpool, and spearheaded the first full port privatisation and port redevelopment in Africa at the Maputo Port Development Company — carrying operational responsibility for all terminal and marine operations.

Beyond the executive line, he has chaired Defence Electronics and Components Agency a UK Ministry of Defence trading agency engaged in nationally significant defence programmes, chaired the British Ports Association — the principal representative body for the ports industry in the UK — and advised the Welsh Government at the most senior level. He began his career in corporate finance at Robert Fleming & Co.
